A basement wants a drain, not a bucket

The EPA advises keeping indoor humidity below 60 percent and ideally between 30 and 50. Every unit on this page holds a setting from 30 to 80% in 5% steps, and every one takes a hose to a floor drain, so you never carry a bucket up the stairs. Where the only drain is a laundry sink above the floor, the SDZ1-150P pumps the water up to it.

Basements run cool, and ENERGY STAR warns that frost can form on the coils below 65°F. If yours drops below that in winter, run the unit in the warmer part of the basement and keep an eye on it in the first cold week.

Questions

Shinco basement dehumidifier: questions

What humidity should your Shinco basement dehumidifier hold?

The EPA advises below 60 percent and ideally between 30 and 50. Set the unit there and Auto mode holds it.

Can a Shinco basement dehumidifier drain on its own?

Yes. Every unit on this page takes a hose to a floor drain, and the SDZ1-150P pumps water up when the drain is higher.

Will a dehumidifier work in your cold basement?

Below 65°F frost can form on the coils, ENERGY STAR notes. Place the unit in the warmest part of the space. The commercial SGH-200P has auto defrost for cold crawl spaces.
